Are you visually impaired, partially or fully blind and know how to write Braille? You may have refrained from responding to text messages in public using voiceover or used the impractical, touchscreen function. If this is the case, we have a solution for you: goBraille, a wireless 8-dot Braille keyboard especially designed for smartphones and connected devices.
- Ergonomic and compact design
- 8 tactile keys
- Quick, efficient writing when dictating is not possible
- Privacy protection
- Easy manipulation thanks to Integrated vibrating function
- Possibility to use different Braille alphabets and languages
goBraille is the fruit of a partnership between Enhanced Tech UG and the association Freies Sehen e.V.
Our community has experienced the challenges using smartphones in public. We have all received text messages which we did not want to respond to using the voiceover function of our telephones, for privacy reasons or the impracticality of the QWERTY touchscreen.
This situation often leaves limited choices to those who know Braille coding because in addition to the circumstances mentioned, the standard Braille display is too bulky to carry around and many blind or visually impaired individuals do not own one.
If that is the case, goBraille, a newly developed Braille keyboard for smartphones may be a solution.
goBraille is designed and assembled by blind and visually impaired from Southern Germany in collaboration with Enhanced-Tech UG. Revenue from goBraille will go towards financing digital integration seminars of Freies Sehen e.V and other non-for-profit projects.
Write using the 8-dot braille keyboard with haptic feedback
The device easily connects via Bluetooth and is automatically recognized by your smartphone as an external keyboard. The device sticks to your smartphone thanks to magnetic strips; it is half as thick as a standard soap bar and fits on any smartphone. When you type, a vibrating feedback lets you know when letters are recorded. You can also chose what language you would like to type in: French, English or German.
No need to wait for the right timing to dictate your response or use the unpractical touch-screen function. All you need are the 8-dots to communicate and no one can listen!
A good alternative, even without Screenreaders
goBraille works on your smartphone even if don’t use Screenreaders like Talkback or VoiceOver, making this device also relevant for visually impaired users that work with Zoom but nonetheless experience difficulties with a virtual/touch screen keyboard.
